Reading Solutions

At Reading One To One we believe there is a solution for every reading difficulty. Each individual learner will have a different entry level to the programme and this is defined by careful assessment. This stage is crucial. Failure to identify an appropriate instructional reading level is often at the heart of limited progress in reading.

Children may fall behind their peers for a wide variety of reasons. They may experience changes in their life such as moving school or illness. More commonly, undiagnosed difficulties or dyslexia can impact on their learning and damage self-esteem. A mature student recently described his past school experience as similar to "falling slowly down a black hole". Early identification of an appropriate instructional level of text is the key to success in reading.

Our programmes are delivered with a sensitive awareness of these issues for both children and adults.

Reading Solutions might involve:

  • Intensive Accelerated Reading Programmes
  • Activities to develop listening skills
  • Strategies and support with spelling or writing
  • Consultancy work with schools to support children
  • Support and advice for adult learners or employers

Tutorial Sessions normally last for 1 hour although extended sessions can be arranged for older children and adults. Although tutorial sessions are available weekly this is not usually the best way to achieve success in the teaching of reading. A block of tuition over a short but intensive period can produce amazing results. All sorts of tuition solutions are possible.

Our Philosophy

This is very simple. Reading One To One aims to change the lives of children, their parents and adults by improving reading and writing skills as quickly as possible. In order to do this, we assess reading ability quickly and easily with no fuss or complex assessments and move immediately onto a programme designed to give an immediate sense of ease and confidence for the learner.
