About us
As the mother of two dyslexic children, my search to find out what would really help a child learn to read began at home. Like many parents, I experienced the sleepless nights and the distress of not knowing how to help my child to deal with the misery of feeling a failure at school. In my professional life, many parents have shared similar emotions with me and I am able to really understand how they feel.
My experiences as a parent from 1988, when my daughter started school, motivated me to develop the professional skills and expertise that would allow me to help both children and adult learners. Having worked with adults who were unable to read, I know how difficulties with reading can affect the lives of people of all ages.
Over the years I have supported many children, including my own, to become confident and capable readers. As a teacher, I initiated many projects to help struggling readers and carried out frequent and extensive staff development for teachers. I have also participated in the training of student teachers. My intensive training as a Reading Recovery Teacher in 2003 added an extra dimension to my skills. Reading Recovery is widely believed to be the most successful way to help children who have not connected with reading to make progress. I use many aspects of this programme in my teaching.
I believe passionately that delay in learning to read should be tackled with real urgency before children become discouraged and give up on the exciting world of books and learning.
Reading success is the right of every child and adult. My tutorial sessions are designed to accelerate skills so that results can impact quickly and, as an experienced consultant, I am always happy to work with schools in any way possible to help a child to make progress.
